About me:

Over the years, I’ve performed in a range of folk and jazz bands at venues such as The Great Hall, The Phoenix, and Sidmouth Folk Festival. I currently play guitar in the folk ceilidh band Mad Robin.

As a teacher, I am calm and encouraging, and make lessons fun as well as focused. I tailor lessons to each student and set clear, achievable goals to help them progress and develop songs they enjoy into performance ready pieces.

Student testimonials:

“Matt has been teaching me guitar for a few months now having started as a complete beginner after a few sessions with Matt I feel much more confident in my ability all thanks to his relaxed but informative sessions which really allow me to develop and grow at my own pace.

I highly recommend Matt as a guitar teacher for all abilities he really is very welcoming, talented and knowledgeable!” - Amy

“Before working with Matt, I felt I never had the knowledge or confidence in myself to improvise on the guitar. I found I was limited to learning songs but not being able to transfer that into playing freely.

Within my first session, Matt had me working on improvising over a song I’d shared with him. He broke down the chord sequences, their relation to scales, and would entertain all my questions and provide encouraging responses and examples.

I think Matt is a wonderful guitar teacher and that any students would be lucky to have his patience, kindness, and energy at their disposal.” - Nik
